Blast from the Past

One of the reasons that I started blogging was that I'm super bad at keeping a journal up to date. So, with each post in my blog I transfer the entry to a Word file that I'm keeping and print it out and put it in a 3 ring binder which becomes my sort of journal. Hey I figured it was better than nothing right?

Anyway, today I'm posting about something that happened in the past that I want my kids (and or grandkids) to remember. I remembered this after I read Shelly's post http://northernnuts.blogspot.com/ about Ryann and the "buffalo bones" and decided I would share.

Rory spent alot of time with my dad when he was younger. He is probably the only grandchild that will remember my dad much because the others were either way young or not even born yet when my dad died. Anyway, one day Rory had been with my dad and when my dad dropped him off at our house he was acting very strangely. He walked in the house and went immediately into his bedroom. I asked him what he was doing and he replied "Oh nothing." Is that not a big red flag to a mother? I walked into his room and he really was doing nothing. He was just sitting there on his bed. I really didn't think much more about it until later that evening when I went to tuck him into bed for the night. He was acting strangely again and very protective of his pillow. So I think to myself "Okay what is going on with this pillow?" I grab it from under his head and guess what was under there? Cow teeth! They had found an old cow skeleton in the mountains that day and my wonderful father had told my son that if he put the teeth under his pillow the tooth fairy would bring him money. Now, how can the tooth fairy not leave money when a grandpa tells his grandson it will happen? The next day I informed my father that I had better not find anymore animal teeth under Rory's pillow in the future. I'm so thankful that Rory was able to spend the time he did with my dad before he died. Rory knows what a fun person his grandpa was now.

This is a fun picture I have of the two of them together. A scrapbook page from the past too. I don't usually paper piece things for my pages anymore.

Kade and his Wisdom Teeth

So I drove my baby boy to Logan early this morning to have his wisdom teeth out. Can I just say I missed a golden opportunity by not taking my video camera. Oh man....Kade was hilarious! He had only been in surgery about 45 minutes when they came out to the waiting room and said he was finished. When I walked back into the recovery room they had him in he was just chattering away (mouth full of gauze and all.) The nurse was trying to give me instructions and he just kept talking very loudly. I started to laugh. Luckily, Rory was there to help me with him because he insisted on walking down the stairs instead of taking the elevator and that was a feat in itself to get him down the stairs safely. We met up with Rory's friend Abby out in the parking lot at which time Kade starts singing "I Am A Child of God" as loud as he can. He tells Abby, "They gave me some good stuff in there. I need more of it. I need to take some home." At this point in time Rory, Abby and I are laughing so hard we have tears in our eyes. Then Kade decides he is going to go shopping at Al's for a clip for his gun. Rory told him he would go into Al's and get it for him. I drove to Al's and parked in front. Rory went in to get the clip and then made the mistake of calling Kade to ask him a question about it. Before I knew what was happening Kade was out of the car door and on his way into the store. Abby and I were running after him. He walked into the store and there were two girls at the checkout stand in the front of the store. Kade looks at them and very loudly tells me, "They're hot aren't they Mom?" Those poor girls didn't know what to say! I said, "I'm sorry. He just had his wisdom teeth out and he really doesn't know what he is saying." Kade is like, "Yes I do. I'm a OK." The girls just laugh. After buying the clip for the gun we took Rory and Abby home and headed for home ourselves. He was pretty quiet on the way home. When I told him about all the stuff he said and did he didn't believe me. Gosh I wish I would have had that video camera with me!
This is Kade before he came out of the effects of the anesthesia (sorry about the bloody gauze pads). It's probably the only picture I'll get of the whole ordeal. He was taking pictures of himself to post on his My Space page. I'll have to see if he really posts them. He won't even let me take a picture now his cheeks are swollen up to what he refers as "chickmonk" cheeks.

It Lives.....Again!

We bought this vehicle in 1990 when Kade was just a baby. We paid $15,000 for it. It had a few miles on it and we thought it was a good deal. This car now has over 330,000 miles on it. We put a new engine in it about six years ago. Recently, the transmission went out of it. We couldn't decide rather to put the money into it and make it run again or to finally let it die. Kade found a used transmission on the internet and he and Brian tore the broken one out and put the new used one in. It is up and running once again. Kade is thrilled! He loves taking it into the mountains. I'm so proud of my guys that they can fix cars when they are broken. I know Brian hates playing mechanic but he has literally saved us thousands of dollars over the years in repair bills. The best part of the whole deal is that Kade has his own vehicle again and won't have to take mine to work. Woohooo!!

Picture Tag

I've been tagged by Meggie. So you go to your fourth file and pick your fourth picture to post...here it is.

This is a photo of my grandparents. . .Ora and Levi Myers. This is my mom's dad and mom. My grandparents were both born in Panguitch, Utah (I know.....bad place to come if you are a Rich Rebel fan huh?) Even though they were born and raised in Panguitch I loved them so much. :) They were the best grandparents. They took us on vacations with them when were were little kids. . .we went fishing everywhere with them. My grandma could sew anything and my grandpa could fix anything. I share an anniversary with them (September 25th). They were married in 1929 and kept it secret for over a year. When they were married my grandpa was going to college in Logan and my grandma was working as a telephone operator. In those days, a woman couldn't be married and still work as a telephone operator and they needed the money from her job so they kept their marriage a secret. Anyway, that is my photo for the picture tag game.

No Trespassing!

So I'm up on my soap box today as you can probably tell from the title of this blog. My last blog dealt with Kade and hunting for ducks. . . .well now he has moved on to geese. However, he hasn't been nearly as successful. . . . they have been quite elusive to him. He and Eric Showalter decided they were going to set up some goose decoys in our field and try to lure the geese in that way.

They got up early yesterday morning (like 5:30 a.m. which is way early for boys that age....lol) and drove down to set up the decoys in the field. When they got there they found two people already set up in the field with decoys. Kade went and asked the people, "Do you know whose ground this is?" They reply, "Yeah Brown's." Kade asked, "Do you have permission to be here?" The man says, "I don't need permission. I was raised in this area. My name is _____________ and anyway the property isn't posted." Kade tells him, "You don't have permission and you need to leave this is private property." The guy says, "We aren't leaving. You don't own this property." Kade says, "I don't own it but I'm part of the family that does." The guy says, "No you aren't and we aren't leaving. Go ahead and call the cops." When Kade called me back and told me this I was furious. Brian knew who the guy was when Kade told us the name. So I called the sheriff and ask him to meet us down there and Brian and I went storming down there. We yelled from the road for the guy to leave they just sat there in their blinds. By this point in time we were boiling mad so we drove out into the field where they were set up.

Brian proceeded to ask them why they hadn't left when they were asked to. They tried to give us the same song and dance about the property not being posted. So I gave them a copy of the proclamation to read that explained they were clearly in the wrong and should have left when Kade asked them to. Bottom line. . . .they figured Kade was a kid and they didn't have to leave.

Since it was a "local person" who had been raised here I let them off easy this time. . . .with only a written warning from the sheriff.

I guess the guys biggest gripe was that I didn't have the property posted. Its going to be posted soon. I think the signs will read, "TRESPASSERS WILL BE SHOT! SURVIVORS WILL BE SHOT AGAIN! Do you think people will get the hint then? You know if the guy had called and asked me before he went chances are I probably would have let him go. But he ruined what was supposed to be a good morning for Kade and Eric and that really made me mad. I just get so tired of people who think it is their right to trespass on other people's property. Okay.....I'll get off my soap box now.

Hunting. . .au naturel

As a parent you are always worried that you are teaching your children what you need to teach them. Its a big responsibility to raise kids. You would think with children that are 18 and 25 years old I should be pretty much done with the teaching. . . . right?
Kade decided to get a small game license so he could hunt ducks and geese this year (since the deer tags were already sold out when he tried to get one.) Fast forward to last night. . . .he comes home from work and dresses in his camo and drives down the canal that runs through our property. He said he slowly crawled up to the bank of the canal and peeked over it. . . .sure enough there were three ducks floating down the canal. He brought the shotgun up to his shoulder and they started to fly. . . .bang he shot one. . . .it falls into the middle of the canal. Okay. . . . he is relating this story to me and I'm thinking. . . .this might be a little bit of a problem. How is he going to get the duck out of the canal? He doesn't have a bird dog that will swim for it. He said he thought a minute and then started taking off his clothes. (Of course he doesn't want to get the precious Cabela's camo wet ya know!) He wades out into the middle of the canal. . . .naked! Man I soooo wish I would have been there with a camera! Blackmail material to the max!!!!!
Apparently he didn't listen the first time I taught him about taking his clothes off. . . .the day he was out peeing off our front step! Note to self: Set Kade down and reteach him it is not appropriate to take our clothes off where other people can see!

P.S. If you see Kade please don't tell him I wrote this about him . . . .just smile and laugh at him!!!!

Four Years Wasn't Enough for Him

So I guess four years of college wasn't enough for Rory. He has decided he wants more. He has been admitted to Utah State for a second degree (Social Work) and is working on getting admitted for grad school next fall. He says he wants a masters degree in Social Work to go along with his Psychology degree. He will be taking social work classes and also Spanish at USU spring semester. He thinks he should pick up on the Spanish quite easily because of living with so many of the Spanish speaking Elders on his mission. I think its a great idea because so many people in the USA speak Spanish these days.

I am so proud of him. He is the first member of my family that has graduated from college. So kudos to him for his fortitude to keep plugging along for another degree. I just can't understand why some cute girl hasn't snatched him up by now.....but I guess that is a whole other blog subject. Hahahaha
